Poverty in India is a major issue that has been plaguing the country for decades. India is home to the world’s largest population of poor people, and the causes of poverty in India are numerous and varied. In this article, we will discuss the major causes and effects of poverty in India.

    Causes of Poverty in India

The primary causes of poverty in India include low levels of education, inadequate healthcare and nutrition, a lack of access to basic services, and rapid population growth. Poor levels of education mean that people are unable to find good jobs and are therefore unable to rise out of poverty. Inadequate healthcare and nutrition lead to poor health and weakened immune systems, meaning people are more susceptible to illness and disease. A lack of access to basic services such as water, electricity, and sanitation also contributes to poverty, as people are unable to access basic necessities. Finally, rapid population growth has led to an increasing demand for resources, leading to higher costs of living and making it difficult for people to make ends meet.

    Effects of Poverty in India

The effects of poverty in India are far-reaching and have a significant impact on the country’s economy, health, and social well-being. Poverty leads to a lack of access to basic needs such as food, water, and sanitation, leading to malnutrition and disease. Poor health leads to a lack of productivity and a decrease in economic output. Poverty also leads to a lack of education, meaning children are unable to attend school and gain the skills they need to move out of poverty. Finally, poverty leads to a lack of access to basic services, such as health care, leading to an increased risk of illness and death.

Poverty is a major issue in India and has been for decades. In order to reduce poverty, the government must address the underlying causes, such as low levels of education, inadequate healthcare and nutrition, a lack of access to basic services, and rapid population growth. Only then will India be able to reduce poverty and improve the lives of its citizens.
