    The Tropic of Cancer is an imaginary line that circles the globe and divides the Earth into two hemispheres, the Northern and the Southern Hemisphere. It is located at 23.5° north of the equator and marks the northernmost point at which the sun can be directly overhead. The Tropic of Cancer passes through many countries around the world, including India. This article will discuss how many states in India are affected by the Tropic of Cancer.

    Overview of Tropic of Cancer

    The Tropic of Cancer is the most northerly circle of latitude on Earth at which the Sun can be directly overhead. It is located at 23.5° north of the equator and is the northernmost point at which the sun can be directly overhead. It is also known as the Northern Tropic and is one of the five major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth. The other four circles are the Arctic Circle, the Tropic of Capricorn, the Equator, and the Antarctic Circle.

    States in India Affected by Tropic of Cancer

    The Tropic of Cancer passes through eight states in India: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, and Mizoram. In Gujarat, the Tropic of Cancer passes through the districts of Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan, Surendranagar, and Rajkot. In Rajasthan, it passes through the districts of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Pali, and Sirohi. In Madhya Pradesh, it passes through the districts of Barwani, Dhar, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Ratlam, Ujjain, and Indore. In Chhattisgarh, it passes through the districts of Durg, Raipur, Balod, Gariaband, and Balrampur. In Jharkhand, it passes through the districts of Koderma, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Ranchi, and Lohardaga. In West Bengal, it passes through the districts of Purulia, Bankura, Burdwan, and Hooghly. In Tripura, it passes through the districts of West Tripura, Dhalai, and South Tripura. In Mizoram, it passes through the districts of Aizawl, Mamit, Lunglei, and Lawngtlai.

    In conclusion, the Tropic of Cancer passes through eight states in India, namely Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, and Mizoram. It passes through many districts in each of these states, making it a significant line of latitude in the Indian subcontinent.
